"Ringo" Raymond Jay Harjo

Raymond Jay Harjo, 72 Raymond Jay "Ringo" Harjo, longtime Maud, Oklahoma resident passed away Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Veterans’ Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 72. Raymond was born August 18, 1943, in Maud, Oklahoma to parents, Joe Harjo and Bessie (Williams) Harjo. Raymond spent most of his life in the Maud area. Raymond served in the United States Army and was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars. He was a member of Achena Presbyterian Church of Maud, Oklahoma. Raymond enjoyed family gatherings and being at the “Williams Hill”, which was the family homestead located southeast of Maud, Oklahoma. He loved to watch wrestling, spending time with his nieces and nephews, working on small engines and was a devoted OU Sooner fan. Raymond is survived by his brother-in-law, Jim Tatum, Sr., children and grandchildren of Geneva Jones and his nieces and nephews; two special care givers, Cecilia Akerman and Latisha Culver and a host of family and friends. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Bessie Harjo; one sister, Helen Tatum; three brothers, Albert Harjo, Harry James Harjo and Evans Harjo, and long time companion Geneva Jones. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will take place at the Williams Family cemetery located southeast of Maud, Oklahoma. Rev. Bill Hobia will officiate the services. Serving as casket bearers are: Bryant Akerman, James Turnbow, Patric Weaver, Zach Lumley, Uriah Harjo, Ezekiel Lumley, Marshall Turnbow and Brent Akerman. Honorary casket bearers are: Lindsey Bondoni, Bennie Williams, Art Cline, Brandon Akerman, Jonathan Weaver, Gregory Jones, Evans Harjo and Brian Akerman. Wake services will be held 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole, Oklahoma.
