Richmond “Oop” Jimmie Tiger Lifelong Seminole resident Richmond Jimmie Tiger passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 in Midwest City, Oklahoma at the age of 81. He was born on May 17, 1928 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Benjamin Tiger and Susie (Lowe) Tiger. On June 7, 1953 he married Elena (Larney) Tiger in Seminole, Oklahoma. He worked at Tinker Air Force Base as a part inspector for 13 years. In 1978 he was elected Chief of the Seminole Nation Tribe. After he served as Chief for the Seminole Nation Tribe he worked at the General Motors plant in Oklahoma City and retired in 1981. He was a former member and president of Strother School Board a Mekuskey Band Member as well a member of the Hitchitee United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War as a Corporal in the 45th Division. He is survived by his wife of the home, Elena Larney Tiger, one son, Charles Tiger of Seminole, three daughters; Regina Tiger of Rockville, Maryland, Lavonna Tiger of Seminole and Inetta Tiger of Rockville, Maryland, one sister, Elsie Jean Tecumseh of Henryetta and one grandson, Russell Bear. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 8, 2009 at the Hitchitee United Methodist Church in Seminole with Nelson Scott Harjo and Victor Underwood officiating. Interment will follow at Hitchitee Church Cemetery with Military Honors performed by the Seminole Nation Color Guard. Casket Bearers will be: Mike Bear, Russell Bear, Bill Larney, Cecil Larney, Kevin Larney and Larry Joe Larney. Honorary Bearers will be: Jim Davis, Pete Amos, Gary Montgomery, Victor Underwood, Andrew Alexander, Houston Yeager and Tip Underwood.
