Rev. Dorsey Nero

Rev. Dorsey Nero, longtime Seminole, Oklahoma resident, passed away July 20, 2020 at the age of 90 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was born in Bowlegs, Oklahoma on May 4, 1930 to parents Wilsie Nero and Molly (Bowlegs) Nero. His parents died when he was very young and he was raised by his grandmother in Lamar, Oklahoma. He attended Shady Grove in Lamar and Bowlegs Schools. He married Agnes Brown in April 22, 1952 at Achena Presbyterian Church in Maud, Oklahoma. Sadly, she passed away on July 30, 2011.

Dorsey was a proud member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, The Tusekia Harjo Band, Tiger Clan. He was very fluent in his native Seminole language and he could read, speak and write it.

Dorsey served his country in the United States Navy from 1948 to 1954. He served aboard four ships during that time and served during the Korean conflict. His last assignment was on the U.S.S. Seminole and he liked the fact that he was from the Seminole Tribe from Seminole, Oklahoma and served aboard the U.S.S. Seminole. While he was in the Navy, he was a welterweight boxer. Later, he taught his daughter, LaDonna to box.

Dorsey was ordained on December 2, 1989 as a minister and was pastor of Cedar Creek Eufaula Indian Baptist Church until his death. He loved doing the Lord’s work and believed that was his ultimate calling. He would do his best to help with any need a church member had. When the family lived in Fort Worth, Texas, he worked at Charles Needham Refrigeration where he built commercial refrigerators. He worked in the oilfield in Seminole county as a truck driver, roustabout and tool pusher, retiring in 1987.

Dorsey loved mowing the lawn and tinkering and repairing his lawn mowers. He was a jokester, liked to tease and was super social. If he met you, you were his friend for life. He always smiling, laughing and was full of life.

Dorsey is survived by his daughter; LaDonna Wadsworth of Grapevine, Texas, his grandson; Lucchese “Luke” Wadsworth, who he loved with all his heart and called him “Knuck”, short for Knucklehead,  Luke’s father; Bernie Wadsworth, his brother; Johnny Wilson of South Dakota and a host of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, his wife and his brothers; Jack Wilson, Clyde Nero and Joseph Cully.

Come and go viewing for Dorsey will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, July 24, 2020 at Swearingen Funeral Home. Graveside services with Military Honors will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 25, 2020 at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole, Oklahoma. Edwin Jimboy will officiate the service.

Casket bearers will be Hilton Queton, Cliff Queton, Larry Merrell, Chuck Anderson, Cliff Merrell and Warren Queton.

Because of COVID19, masks and social distancing are required for anyone attending Dorsey’s service. Also, please for the protection of the family, who have serious medical conditions, no hugging or handshaking.
