Raymond Vandever

Raymond Leroy Vandever, 86, Seminole resident, died Thursday, May 5, 2016, in Seminole, Oklahoma. Raymond was born August 1, 1929 in Macomb, Oklahoma to John William Vandever and Ethel Lee (Dickson) Vandever. Mr. Vandever retired after 30 years of service to a local nursing home working in housekeeping and maintenance. Then  he opened and operated Vandever’s Grocery Store in Bowlegs, Oklahoma. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints. Mr. Vandever served in the Signal Corp in the U.S. Army. He loved gardening, Oklahoma City Thunder games, OU sports and being with his children and grandchildren. He married Vera Lolla (Clanton) Vandever on August 7, 1951 in Shawnee, Oklahoma and she preceded him in death. Mr. Vandever is survived by his son, Leroy Vandever and his wife Mary of Seminole, Oklahoma, and his daughter Cordelia Echelle and her husband Brent Lindemann of Seminole, Oklahoma, three grandchildren; John Echelle and Lexi Lindemann of Seminole, Oklahoma and Jeff Vandever and his wife Stephanie of El Reno, Oklahoma; three great grandchildren, Elijah Vandever, Kanton Vandever and Faith Vandever.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son Tommy Vandever, five brothers; Leon, Bill, Orville, Carl and Jack Vandever; two sisters Marie Alexander and Leta Brock. Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M., Friday, May 13, 2016 at the Tecumseh  Cemetery in Tecumseh, Oklahoma, with Mark Hennen officiating, Service are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
