Seminole resident, Ray Northern, departed this life on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 in Midwest City, Oklahoma at the age of 90. Ray was born on April 17, 1922 to parents George and Florence Northern in Sulphur Springs, Texas, they preceded him in death. He married Mollie “ Iola” (Lawson) Northern on December 28, 1941 in Mesa, Arizona; the couple moved to Seminole County 16 years ago and were members of the Bowlegs Assembly of God. Mollie “ Iola” precedes him in death. Ray took part in building hospitals, dams and bridges and he served in the U.S. Army for two years during World War II. Ray enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, gardening, his dogs, playing dominoes, camping and fishing. Survivors include his children Crystal and Peter Formica, Clyde Pierce, all of Seminole, Oklahoma, Jimmy and Jonda Northern of Laveen, Arizona, and Olen Ray and Cheryl Northern of Palmer, Alaska; two sisters, Carolyn Wheeler of California, Maudie Lee of Arizona and one brother, Leo Northern of Texas. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jeanee and Joe Houser, Robert and Brenna Pierce, all of Seminole, Arthur David Pierce, stationed at Virginia Beach, Arthur Northern,Marcie and Jeff Camblin, Cindy Northern, Jimmy and Rachel Northern,David Northern, Dennis and Kathy Northern, Annette and Mike Olsen, all of Arizona, Sonny and Sue Northern of Alaska, and Diana and Robert Searles of Illinois; great-grandchildren include, Felisha, Cody, Peyton, Theron, Garrett, Aerianna, Dalton,Taylor, Brent, Skyler, Baylee, Faythe, Daniel, Bryan, Jeremy, Collin, Justin, Valentina, Seth, Tyler, Hannah, and Luke; great-great grandchildren include Briana, Kyla, Angelina and Reily Fay. His son, Wayne Northern, and grandchildren, Woody Northern, Kenneth Northern and Johnny Northern, preceded him in death along with his siblings, Jake, Opal, Jimmy and Ida. Casket bearers will be Clyde Pierce, Robert Pierce, Arthur David Pierce, Joe Houser, Cody Houser and Peter Formica. Honorary casket bearers will be Sherman Whitley and James Northern. Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with burial following at Maple Grove Cemetery. Rev. Roy Robertson will officiate at the service. Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole is in charge of arrangements.
