Ralph York

November 6, 1929 — August 25, 2014

Ralph E. York, 84 year old lifelong Seminole, Oklahoma resident passed from this life on Monday, August 25, 2014 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma City.  He was born November 6, 1929 in Maud, Oklahoma to parents Virgil Clarence York and Beulah May (Hale) York.  He was raised by his step-mother, Myrtle York from the time he was two years old. Ralph attended Maud Public Schools before serving in the United States Army.  While in the Army he earned commendations as a Sharpshooter (Rifle (M-14). When Ralph returned to Seminole he managed Consumer Gas Station in Seminole.  Then later he owned and operated Seminole Taxi Cab Service from the late 1960’s to the 1970’s.  Ralph then retired as Street Superintendent for the City of Seminole. Ralph was a member of the V.F.W. in Tom Bean, Texas and he also attended the East Oak Church of God in Maud, Oklahoma. Ralph leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Opal Faye (Blevins) Gentry Davis York of the home; eight sons and daughters-in-law, Michael York of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Clarence York and his wife Lois Lyn York of Stillwell, Oklahoma, John David Cookie Nelson Padilla and his wife Amber of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Thomas York of Texas, William Gentry of Texas, Phillip Gentry of Texas, George Gentry of Texas, Samuel Gentry of Texas; three daughters and a son-in-law, Dalinda “Sam” Waltman of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Judy Harrington and her husband Rick of Maud, Oklahoma, Tina York of Las Vegas, Nevada; 31 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other family and dear friends. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother who raised him, Myrtle York; by two sons, Ralph Edward York and Marvin Ronald York, by one step-son, Mark Davis, by one son-in-law, Boyd Waltman; by one brother, Tom York and by two sisters, Ellen Tunnel and Opal Loudermilk. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the Little Cemetery Chapel located in Little Cemetery.  Tony Chesser will officiate the service.  Interment will follow at Little Cemetery. The family request that donations be sent to Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole to help cover funeral expenses.
