Patricia Ruth (Atha) Garbutt, 82 year-old, longtime Seminole resident passed from this life Thursday, February 25, 2010 at her home in Seminole surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 30, 1928 in Cromwell, Oklahoma to parents Herbert Atha and Ruth (Kipps) Atha. Patricia had attended Seminole, New Lima, Supulpa and Maud Schools before she went on to attend pharmacy school at the University of Oklahoma where she earned her degree in pharmacy. While attending OU she was active in the OU marching band where she played the clarinet. On December 23, 1948 she married the love of her life George H. Garbutt at the McFarland Memorial Methodist Church in Norman, Oklahoma. Following her graduation from the University of Oklahoma on June 6, 1949 Pat worked at several different pharmacies including, Shuler Rexall Drug in Maud, Parks Drug in Seminole, Seminole Hospital and the Alaska Pharmacy for a time while living in Alaska. Patricia was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seminole where she was involved with the “W.M.U.” - Women’s Missionary Union. She had also worked with the youth at the First Methodist Church in Seminole for several years. Patricia also enjoyed painting, reading, being with people cross country skiing in Colorado, bird watching and certainly she loved being with her grandchildren. Patricia leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 61 years, George Garbutt of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ron Garbutt and his wife Becki of Seminole, Oklahoma and Patrick Garbutt and his wife Paula of Seminole, Oklahoma; grandchildren and their spouses, Bart & Kim Garbutt of Edmond, Oklahoma, Bonnie Garbutt of Breckenridge, Colorado, Libby & Nick Atyia of Blanchard, Oklahoma, Michael Garbutt of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Julia & Jon David Byrum of Bentonville, Arkansas; three great-grandchildren, Reid Garbutt, Gabriel Atyia and Easton Atyia; as well as a host of other family and dear friends. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 27, 2010 at The First Baptist Church located at 420 Reid Street in Seminole. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole, Oklahoma. Russell Vicars will officiate the service. The family has designated the First Baptist Church “Bridge Fund” P.O. Box 310 – Seminole, Oklahoma 74818 as appropriate for memorial donations. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
