Oscar Douglas “Doug” Jones, age 76 and a resident of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Norman Verteran Center in Norman, Oklahoma. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13th at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa, Oklahoma.  Burial will follow at Konawa Cemetery.  Rev. Richard Zimmer will officiate.  Pallbearers are Landyn Dye, Dan Walker, Les Morse, Chris Eakens, Ty Huckleberry, and Dr. Ben Edwards.  Honorary pallbearers are C. Doug Jones, Jerry Surber, and Doug Kruse.  The family will be available to receive guests on Friday, August 12th from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Doug was born on October 26, 1934 in Konawa to Alonzo Jones and Ora (Williams) Jones.  He received a Bachelor of Science degree from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma.  Doug married Barbara Sandel on July 3, 1957 in Pasadena, Texas.  He is the former owner of D&B Grocery in Konawa, and taught school in Alaska for many years.  He served his country as an Airman First Class in the U.S. Air Force, and was stationed in Japan.  He was a member of the Rock Creek Baptist Church in Shawnee. Doug is survived by his wife, Barbara (Sandel) Jones of the home; three daughters, Deborah Lynn Morse and husband, Les of Juneau, Alaska, Angela Kay Walker and husband, Dan of Bethel, Alaska, and Brenda Ann Dye of Shawnee, Oklahoma; two sisters, Sammy Edwards and husband, Benny of Ada, Oklahoma, and Dianne Huckleberry of Konawa, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Tera Eakens and husband, Chris of Ada, Christen Walker of Norman, Doug Jones and wife, Stefanie of Juneau, Alaska, Lauryn, Jordyn, and Landyn Dye of Shawnee; and three great grandchildren, McKinley and Walker Eakens, and Sean Jones. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Ora Jones. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Parkinson Foundation.
