Opal Ruth (Sims) Malone, 89 year-old, longtime Seminole resident passed from this life Wednesday, June 9, 2010 in Seminole, Oklahoma. She was born to Charles and Bessie (Moody) Sims on September 12, 1920 in the family home five miles north of Seminole. She was the fifth of six children. Opal graduated from Varnum High School in May of 1938. She married Ivis A. “I.A.” Malone on November 27, 1940. He preceded her in death in October 1977. During World War II she worked at the Douglas Aircraft Plant (now Tinker Air force Base) in Midwest City, Oklahoma. After the war she and her husband established a home at what now is 2506 North Harvey Road in Seminole, Oklahoma. Two sons were born, Johnny W. Malone in 1950 currently of Norman, Oklahoma and Jimmy Malone in 1954 currently of Seminole, Oklahoma. After her children were older she went to work for Pioneer Nursing Home in the dietary department in 1968 and worked there until her retirement in 1992. In 1986 she was voted the employee of the year at the Nursing Center. Mrs. Malone was a lifetime member of the Church of God (currently Heartland Family Church) of Seminole. Her hobbies included spending time with her grandchildren and watching OU football. Opal leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Johnny W. Malone of Norman, Oklahoma and Jimmy Malone of Seminole, Oklahoma; two sisters, Elsie Castor of Seminole, Oklahoma and Hazel McCanless of Sealy, Texas; three grandchildren, Misty Rowan of Seminole, Oklahoma, Cassandra Malone of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Eric Malone of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; four great-grandchildren, Carter and Greyson Malone children of Eric and Jill Malone, Ciarra Malone and Abby Rowan children, of Chad and Misty Rowan; and a host of other family and dear friends. Mrs. Malone is preceded in death by her parents; her husband I.A. Malone; two brothers, Irral Sims and Merel Sims; and by her younger sister, Jewel Porter. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma. Roger Brewer will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery north of Seminole. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
