Opal Faye Armstrong, 90, longtime Seminole resident died Monday, August 8, 2011 in Richardson, Texas. She was born July 8, 1921 in Owasso, Oklahoma to Leonard B. and Vina (Hill) Sumpter. Opal grew up in the Owasso and Skiatook, Oklahoma area where she attended schools. She graduated from Skiatook High School. She was a homemaker and loved to care for her husband and children. She was active at the First Assembly of God Church in Seminole in early years and recently had attended Liberty Baptist Church in Shawnee, Oklahoma. She was a strong Christian woman who kept her faith in God till the very end of her life. Opal married Vernon Armstrong, Sr. on December 23, 1941 in Bowlegs, Oklahoma and they moved back to Seminole in 1955. Mr. Armstrong preceded her in death on January 7, 1996. Mrs. Armstrong was also preceded in death by her parents, and a son Vernon Newton “ JR” Armstrong, Jr. and a daughter Carolyn Armstrong. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law; Jack and Marilynn Armstrong of Poteau, Oklahoma and a daughter and son-in-law; Jan and Perry Garrett of Richardson, Texas, and Daughter-in-law, Diana Armstrong of Seminole, Oklahoma. She was also survived by her grandchildren, Gina Johnson, Bryan Armstrong, Susan Adcock, David Armstrong, Steve Hull and Amy Garrett, and her great-grandchildren Matthew, Grant, Jennifer, Joshua, Heather, Megan, Billy, Wyatt, Luke and Sarah. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Little Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
