Neva Smart

Neva Rebecca Smart, 89, longtime Seminole resident, died Saturday, July 11, 2015 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Neva was born April 12, 1926 in Francis, Oklahoma to Stanley McGowan Baxter and Margaret Lovina (Cradler) Baxter. She had lived in Seminole county for over 77 years. Neva was the longtime Nursing Home Administrator at the Pioneer Nursing Home in Seminole, Oklahoma and retired in 1983. In previous years she worked at the Vogue, a women’s clothing store in Seminole. She loved square dancing, senior citizens dances, traveling and being with her grandchildren. She is survived by her two sons, Gary Smart and wife Janet of Stillwater and Lary Smart of Ojai, California and one brother, Phil Baxter of Choctaw, Oklahoma, three grandchildren Katy Gilliland and her husband John and Jeff Gilliland of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Seth Smart and one great granddaughter, Charley Gilliland. Neva was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Margaret Baxter, husband, R.L. Smart, one daughter Becky, six brothers and six sisters. Funeral services are planned for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery, Wewoka, Oklahoma. Serving as casket bearers are: Seth Smart, John Gilliland, Jeff Gilliland, Zac Staton.
