M.W. Gideon, 88, passed away peacefully at his home, south of Seminole on Wednesday, January 25, 2012. M.W. was born on November 17, 1923, in Konawa, Oklahoma to Murphy and Ada Gideon. He was the youngest of nine children. M.W. graduated from Vamoosa High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943, serving as a gunners mate in the South Pacific during World War II, he served three years. Upon discharge from the Navy, he joined the Steamfitters and Pipefitters Union. He was a Certified Steamfitter Welder and worked out of Local 344 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for 64 years. He married Irene Lewis from Seminole County on January 19, 1947 and they were married for 65 years. They lived in California for five years before moving back to Oklahoma, after living and working in various states, they settled south of Seminole in 1965. He is survived by the love of his life, Irene Gideon of the home, his two daughters and their husbands, Kerry Lynn McNutt and husband Danny McNutt of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Cyndy Gideon and her husband Jim Corman of Gainsville, Texas, a surviving sister, Ann Guthrie of Midwest City, Oklahoma and brother-in-law Ted Lewis and his wife Georgia, rural Seminole County. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was a 32 degree Mason, a member of the Masonic Lodge of Konawa, Oklahoma and a member of the Wolf Baptist Church. A celebration of his Christian life will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, January 27, 2012 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole. Burial will follow in the Wolf Cemetery south of Seminole.
