Molly Patterson Funeral services for well-known Seminole resident Molly Patterson are planned for Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Seminole. Molly died at her home Friday, August 17, 2012 at the age of 85. She was born Madeline Ann Dubie on July 13, 1927, in Colchester, Vermont Her parents were Frank Amos and Elizabeth Adral (Cassan) Dubie; she was one of nine children. Patterson attended Cathedral High School, where she graduated with honors in 1944. She attended secretarial school in Boston. She worked for Champlain Valley Group for nine years, then for Vermont Structural Steel for three years. She married D.D. Patterson on April 18, 1958, in St. Albans, Vt. Her husband was serving in the U.S. Air Force, so they moved to Sumter, S.C. She worked for Williams Furniture from 1958 to 1967. The family, which now included four children, moved to Yakota, Japan, for two years, then to Honolulu for a year. They arrived in Seminole in 1970, where they immediately joined Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Patterson worked as librarian at Wilson Elementary School from 1973 to 1979, and then for her family’s oil business until 1989. She went to work for J. Smart Company in 1989, and retired in 2005. Patterson has been involved with many organizations and volunteered with many more during her years in Seminole. She was a tireless member of Beta Sigma Phi, Church Women United and the Seminole Chamber of Commerce, where she was a frequent volunteer. At her church, she was sometimes known as “Father Molly,” greeting every member and visitor who came through the door, typing church bulletins and handling and organizing church events throughout the years. She was active in the church’s Altar Society, holding every office, and guiding new officers and members through 42 years of First Communions, confirmations, Christmas parties, May crownings and bingo parties. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, with the Rotary Club’s Christmas dinner, and at Interfaith Ministries’ food pantry. She was a volunteer with the Pink Ladies, and was named Volunteer of the Year by Integris Seminole Hospital; for that honor; she was the " pin up Girl" on this year's calendar. She was once named Volunteer of the Year by Melvin Moran, who chose three volunteers to honor for their work in Seminole. Patterson founded the Maple Grove Chapel Association, rasing money for the cemetery and the restoration of the historic old chapel on the cemetery grounds, where she will be laid to rest. She is survived by her husband, D.D., of the home. Other survivors include her sons, Frank (Jennifer) Patterson of Houston, Rick (Amy) Patterson of Seminole, and her daughter, Beth (Linda) Gerwe of Dallas. Grandchildren include Addy of Norman, Anna of Columbia, Mo., James of Dallas, Justin of Austin and Nolan of Frisco, Texas. Also surviving her is one sister, Jeannette Legleitner of Cleveland, Ohio, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends who adore her. Patterson was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, three brothers, and her beloved son, Dr. Glenn Patterson, who died Sept. 7, 1990, in Moses Lake, Wash. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Visitation will be held at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Monday, August 20, 2012 with Catholic Rosary following at 7:30 p.m.. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery of Seminole, Oklahoma. The casket will remain open during visitation and rosary at the funeral home, but will not be open at the church for services. Casket bearers will be; Larry Smith, David Wilson,Vic Kennemer,Dr. Gus Shi, Bill Parsons and Audie Woodard. Honorary bearers will be; Melvin Moran, Ron Null, Steve Saxon, Gene Hawk, Bob Webster, Don Gill, Ken McDaniel,Bill Jones, Bill Wantland, and Dr. Chayne Fisher.
