Michael Daniel Akerman

Michael Daniel Akerman, age 83 and a resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 7, 2010. A wake service is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 8th at Swearingen Funeral Home in Konawa, Oklahoma, and a funeral mass is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 9th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Konawa.  Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.  Fr. Adrian Vorderlandwehr, O.S.B. will officiate.  Pallbearers are Allen Akerman, Bryant Akerman, Brent Akerman, Brandon Akerman, Dewayne Sexton, and Brent Sanders. Michael was born on January 4, 1927, in Sacred Heart to Theresa (Diester) and Dan Akerman.  He married Jean Dale (Sexton) on September 18, 1946 in Sacred Heart. He worked as a tool pusher for the oilfield and as a farmer.  He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Konawa. He is survived by his wife, Jean Dale Akerman of the home; one son, Michael Daniel “Mickey” Akerman, Jr.  and wife, Donna of Konawa; three daughters, Donna Marie Cooley and husband, Clifford of Blanchard, Oklahoma, Linda Louise Carter and husband, Bob of Byng, Oklahoma, and Bonnie Sue Harden and husband, Phil of Konawa; two brothers, Billy Akerman and wife, Judy of Konawa, and Chris Akerman and wife, Jo also of Konawa; one sister, Alma Lou Bell of Texas; nine grandchildren, Lori Roberts, Kim Morse, Brian Akerman, Kristen McCurdy, Becky O’Dell, Amanda Akerman, Jesse Brogdon, Stephanie Brogdon, and Cody Goodrich; ten great grandchildren, Brie Roberts, Chris Roberts, Bryant Akerman, Brent Akerman, Brooklyn Akerman, Brandon Akerman, Corbin McCurdy, Mackenzie Brogdon, Makayla Brogdon, and Matthew Brogdon; two great-great grandchildren, Layne Akerman and Brogan Akerman.   He is preceded in death by his parents, Dan Akerman in 1937 and Theresa Akerman in 1986; one brother, Francis Akerman and one sister, Mary Bishop.
