Merl Eugene Winslett

Merl Eugene Winslett, 78 year old Oklahoma City, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life on Monday, August 17, 2020 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  He was born November 27, 1941 in Atoka, Oklahoma to parents Noma Lee (Bowen) Winslett and Hayden Merl Winslett.

Merl earned his education degree in music from Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Since 1962 he had served as Director of Music for several Baptist Churches, and for the past 20 plus years he served at Springdale Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He taught music in Ryan, Duncan, Okemah and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma public schools.  Merl had also been very active in the “Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma”.

On August 31, 2013 Merl married Linda Gale (Cathey) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Survivors include his wife Linda (Cathey) Winslett of the home; 2 brothers Allen Winslett of Denison, Texas and Wesley Winslett of Duncan, Oklahoma; 2 sisters Stella Lindesmith of Waurika, Oklahoma and Edith Phillips of Duncan, Oklahoma; and a host of other family and dear friends, including longtime family friend Ted Wilson.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at the First Baptist Church in Addington, Oklahoma with Rev. Steve Yowell officiating the service.  Interment will follow at Addington Cemetery.

Merl was preceded in death by his parents; Hayden and Noma Lee (Bowen) Winslett, his sister; Alma Lindesmith and his niece; Heather Phillips.

The family requests donations be made to the Baptist Children's Home or charity of your choice.
