Melvin Wood

Melvin Edward Wood, 78 Melvin Edward Wood, a Shawnee, Oklahoma resident passed away Friday, April 18, 2014 at the age of 78 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Melvin was born November 7, 1935 in Konawa, Oklahoma to parents, James Melvin Wood and Gladys (Saunders) Wood. Melvin lived in the Shawnee and Seminole area most of his life. He received a B A Degree from East Central University, was of the Christian faith, belonged to the Downtown Pentecostal Holiness Church and to the American Legion. Melvin served in the United States Air Force and obtained the rank of Airman First Class. Melvin married Rita (Plemmons) Wood, December 29, 1998 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Melvin is survived by wife, Rita Wood of the home; one step-son, Jarrod Wright of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Judy Grisso and her husband Wayne of Shawnee, Oklahoma and one step-grandson Ethan Wright. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Downtown Pentecostal Holiness Church with Ron Baldridge officiating. Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Seminole, Oklahoma. Cremation services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole, Oklahoma.
