Melody Guinn

Melody Lynn (Hurst) Guinn, 59 year-old, longtime Seminole County resident passed from this life July 10, 2012 at Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  She was born August 26, 1952 in Seminole, Oklahoma to parents “J.C.” Hurst and Jimmie Louise (Pittman) Hurst. Melody graduated from Maud High School in 1970.  On October 22, 1969 Melody married Ronald Lance Guinn in Maud, Oklahoma.  Shortly after their marriage Lance took a job with Elder International a Houston, Texas based company.  The company had contracted to build homes for the United States Air Force in Karmasel, Turkey and the island of Crete (Greece).  This gave Melody and Lance the opportunity to visit many foreign countries. When the couple returned to Seminole County, Melody worked for Furmon’s Grocery Store in Maud for several years.  She then went to work at Knight Funeral Home in Maud where she worked for many years before her retirement.  Melody and Lance lived in Orange Beach, Alabama for the last few years where they had made many friends before returning back to Seminole County. Melody was a member of the Maud Historical Society, The Maud Chamber of Commerce and the Maud Fire and Police Auxiliary. Melody leaves to cherish her memory her husband of almost 43 years, Lance Guinn of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Amy (Guinn) Brown and her husband Bennie Brown of Seminole County, Oklahoma; two sons, Tyrel Guinn and Shane Osborn of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two brothers and sisters-in-law, David Hurst and his wife Phyllis (Loudermilk) Hurst of Huntsville, Texas and Bob Hurst and his wife Norma (Birkicht) Hurst of Maud, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Hayden Cleary, Warren Cleary, Ethan Harjo and Steven Brown; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jerry Guinn and his wife Gracie (Hurst) Guinn of Grove, Oklahoma, Willard “Buster” Brock and his wife Tresha (Wiley) Brock of Norman, Oklahoma; nieces and nephews, Jered and Joan Guinn of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Jake and Kristen Guinn of Richardson, Texas, David Brock of Norman, Oklahoma, Dale and Angie Norman of Spring, Texas, Tony and Mindy Hurst of Texas, Tim and Cindy Hurst of Texas, Paul and Doris Hurst of Texas, Kim and Larry Lassabe of Spring, Texas, Kelly Hurst of Texas, John and Mikela Hurst of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Neal and Dawn Hurst of Eufaula, Oklahoma, Robin Hurst of Maud, Oklahoma and a host of other family and dear friends. Melody is preceded in death by her parents “J.C.” and Jimmie Hurst; by one brother, Raymon Hurst; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary (Foster) Brock-Guinn and Jack Guinn. The family will receive friends Friday, July 13, 2012 at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the Performing Arts Center “P.A.C.” at Konawa High School.  Interment will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud, Oklahoma.  Rev. Marvin Kehl and Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate the service. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
