Melford "Sonny" Price

Melford D. “Sonny” Price, Jr., age 69, passed away Friday, October 25, 2019 at his home in Seminole, Oklahoma. He was born September 30, 1950 in Wewoka, Oklahoma to parents Melford Price, Sr. and Ella Mae (Scott) Jackson. He was a graduate of Butner High School and a member of the Creek Nation of Oklahoma. He served his country in the United States Air Force and received an Honorable Discharge and a National Defense Service Medal. He was an Assistant Store Manager at Cash Saver Grocery Store in Seminole for 8 years and retired in 2018. He enjoyed playing softball, playing pool and dominoes, watching OU football, hanging out with family and friends, driving old dirt roads and eating. Sonny is survived by sons; Mitch and his wife Shyla and Chris and his wife Kim, all of Cromwell, Oklahoma and daughters; Carrie and her husband Edison of Earlsboro, Oklahoma, Sonnie and Kayla of Waxahachie, Texas, his significant other; Debbie Bristow of the home, brother; Dale Jackson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, stepsons; Dylan of the home and Dustin and Hannah of Bowlegs, Oklahoma, stepdaughter; Linda of the home,10 granddaughters, 8 grandsons, 3 great-grandchildren and numerous host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Gene, Saber and Andrew Jackson and sisters; Carolyn Walker and ElWanda Halloway. Wake services will be Wednesday, October 30, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel and Thursday, October 31, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at Greenleaf Church in Okemah, Oklahoma. The funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M Friday, November 1, 2019 at Greenleaf Church in Okemah with Brother Dean Walker officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Creek Nation Color Guard will follow in the Greenleaf Church Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Tim Grabin, Johnny Stephens, Bennie Harjo, Sam Bender, Joe Bender, Speedy Harjo and Jerry McKane. Honorary casket bearers will be Sonny’s grandsons and Dylan and Dustin Bristow. The family would like to express their appreciation to the nurses at Heartland Hospice of Shawnee, Oklahoma for the care they provided to Sonny in his final days.
