Melba L. (Crenshaw) Austin, age 83 and a longtime resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2013 in Konawa at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa. Burial will follow at Konawa Cemetery. Pastor Jerry States will officiate. Pallbearers are Steven Campbell, Robert Castleberry, Wayne Butler, Dwight Butler, Houston Leonard, and Orin Cooley. Honorary Pallbearers are Paul Campbell, Matthew Yerby, Joe DeArman and Mitch Williams. Melba was born on June 29, 1929 in Konawa to Elmer Crenshaw and Ara (Bickerstaff) Crenshaw. She graduated Konawa High School, and she worked as a Secretary for the Konawa Funeral Home for thirty-five years. Melba loved to watch the Atlanta Braves. She is survived by one brother, Ralph Crenshaw of California; three sisters, Wilma Lamb and husband, Walter of Konawa, Frances Norback of Springfield, Missouri, and Bonnie Spooner of Konawa; two grandchildren, Cynthia Mitchell and Keith Mitchell of Konawa; and six great grandchildren, Dalton Dixon, Austin Walker, Whitney Mitchell, Aerial Mitchell, Haley Mitchell, and Toby Mitchell. Melba was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Ara Crenshaw and by one daughter, Shirley Reeves. The family wishes to express a heartfelt, “Thank You” to Halo Hospice of Ada.
