Matthew Jay Cox

Matthew Jay Cox passed away at the age of 39, on January 2, 2022, in Wewoka, Oklahoma. He was born September 14, 1982, in Midwest City, Oklahoma to Harley Dale Cox and Brenda Jean (Osbon) Cox. He attended Carl Albert High School in Midwest City and later received his GED. He lived most of his life in Midwest City with his parents and his brothers Chris and Jeremy. Matthew married Michele T. Zeitvogel on September 3, 2015, in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Matthew proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Cavalry Scout. He served in the Global war on Terror with two deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Some of the medals he received were, three Army Commendation Medals, two Army Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and two Iraqi Campaign Medals with campaign stars.

Matthew enjoyed playing with his children, especially football, coaching little league football, hunting, fishing for catfish, working on cars, boating, home improvements and was a huge OU football fan.

Matthew is survived by his father; Dale Cox, his mother; Brenda Cox, his wife; Michele Cox, his sons; Braden G. Cox, Mason A. Cox and Jaxon W. Cox, his daughter; Dakota L. Cox, his brother; Jeremy Cox and his wife Tiffani, grandchild; Asher D. Cox and three step-children. He was preceded in death by his brother Chris Cox, his paternal grandparents; Harley and Nora Cox, his aunt; Donna Neil and two uncles; Paul Cox and Tim Cox.

Public viewing for Matthew will be from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, January 9, 2022, at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 10, 2022, at the First Baptist Church in Seminole, Oklahoma with Nick Atyia officiating. Burial will follow at the Seminole Nation and Veteran’s National Cemetery in Seminole.

Casket bearers will be Joshua Whitfield (US Army), Michael Bland (US Army), David Bailey (US Army), Alan Wilson (US Army), Michael Roath (US Army) and Braden Cox (son). Honorary bearers will be his father, Dale Cox; brother, Jeremy Cox; uncle, Scott Foshee; friend, Skylar Kaase and family member, John Spain.
