Mary Parker, 97 Funeral services for Mary Ellen Parker will be held 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 3, 2010 at the Seminole Church of Christ with Chris Stinnett, officiating. Mary was a longtime Seminole resident, who died on April 29, 2010, after a short illness. Mary was a resident of the Pioneer Nursing Home in Seminole. She was born in Dustin, Oklahoma, August 22, 1912, living to the age of 97. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Hamlin, of Dustin (who died in 1921), and Pearl Hamlin, (who died in Seminole in 1944). Mary was also preceded in death by her husband, Houston Parker, also of Seminole, and two sisters, Birty Leggett, of Gladewater, Texas and Lettie Hicks of Seminole, Oklahoma. Additionally, one daughter, Norma Lee Sursa, of Lubbock, Texas, is also deceased. Mary Parker was a devout Christian and a longtime member of the Church of Christ in Seminole. She was especially noted for expertise in sewing and alterations at the now defunct Adwan’s specialty shop. Mary at one time made a party gown for Dana Boren. Mary was educated in the Seminole school system and studied under Miss Burnette, a noted History teacher in Seminole High School. Mary Parker is survived by: sister, Minnie Evens of Seminole, Oklahoma; two children, Mrs. Louise Phillips, of Huntsville, Texas and Retired Air Force Colonel Bill Parker, of Edmond, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Elaine Hollowell, of Huntsville, Texas, Marianne Head of Humble, Texas, Jeffrey S. Parker, of Houston, Texas and David S. Parker, of Park City, Utah. Mary is also survived by five great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. A reception will follow for family members and close friends following a short graveside service at Maple Grove Cemetery, Seminole, Oklahoma.
