Mary Vivian Morris, 97, Seminole resident, died Saturday, April 13, 2013 in Seminole, Oklahoma. Vivian was born August 27, 1915 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Winford Fizer Matthews and Ara Dell (Barnett) Matthews. Vivian grew up in Seminole and graduated from Seminole High School and Seminole Junior College. She attended East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. She married Harold Wayne Morris on October 4, 1936, in Seminole, Oklahoma. They lived in Duncan, Oklahoma for over 52 years. Vivian came back to Seminole in 2005, after Harold’s death. Vivian was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Self-Culture Club and the Sosum Club in Duncan, Oklahoma. She also helped organize the “ Kiddies College” in 1949-1950 in Seminole for Kindergarten Age Children. Vivian had worked in retail sales at “ Reba’s” in Duncan, Oklahoma and Lucille’s Children and Gift Shop in Seminole, Oklahoma. Vivian is survived by her daughters; Barbara Ann Ply of Flagstaff, Arizona, and Virginia Dell Stanley of North Carolina. She is also survived by her sister, Geraldine “ Jerry” Sullivan, of Seminole, Oklahoma, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her parents; her husband, Harold, two brothers James Barnett Matthews and Winford F. Matthews, Jr. and her son-in-law, John W. Ply, who died March 23, 2013, preceded her in death. Funeral services are planned for 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Gary Wilburn, and Chris Stinnett officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
