Mary Hoskins, age 79 and a resident of Asher as well as a former resident of Konawa, passed away on Monday, November 30, 2009, at Colonial Estates Nursing Home in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 5th at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel located in Konawa, Oklahoma. Ruby Nell York will officiate, and burial will follow at Vista Cemetery in Konawa. Visitation is Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Mary was born on August 17, 1930, in Wewoka, Oklahoma, to Leon and Mary L. (Troutman) Tipton. She was a graduate of Konawa High School. She married Vernon Hoskins on May 15, 1947, in Konawa. Mary loved her family and friends, and she loved to help others. Mary was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church, and she was the Mayor of Asher, Oklahoma, for four years. She is survived by her husband, Vernon Hoskins of the home; three sons, Vernon Hoskins, Jr. of Asher, Oklahoma, Roger Hoskins and wife, Cheryl of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and Scott Hoskins and wife, Kricket of Asher, Oklahoma; one brother, Tommy Joe Williams of Riverside California; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Mary Tipton; two brothers, Claude Maxwell and Orvil “Doc” Tipton; and four sisters, Inez Hooker, Etta Lee Nash, Lawanda Scott, and Eunice Barnett.
