Marvin Guy Gillespie

June 16, 1948 — January 17, 2021

San Antonio, Texas

Marvin Guy Gillespie was born along side his twin sister on June 16, 1948 in Seminole, Oklahoma. Throughout his school years, he was active in Boy Scouts and the Methodist church. Following his graduation from high school he attended Okmulgee Technical School for a semester. For most of his adult life Marvin lived in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Florida area where he was an HVAC technician and in the construction trades for twenty years with TW9Y. Health issues brought him and his longtime companion, Joan Bentley, to Pensacola, Florida. Marvin had Parkinson’s Disease and soon after Joanie’s death in 2013 he moved to San Antonio, Texas to be closer to his sister.

When not reading a good western, or watching one on TV, Marvin could be found fishing and if not there, then in his vegetable garden. He was an honest, hard working man who loved a good joke. Marvin always had a special place in his heart for his hometown and his Seminole friends.

Marvin passed away on January 17, 2021. He was preceded in death by his father Montie Gillespie, his mother Mae Gillespie and his faithful companion Joan Bentley. He is survived by his twin sister Frances Swenson and husband Peter, and two beloved nieces, Karin Swenson (great nephew Caiden), and Meredith Paine and husband Eric (great niece Evelyn).

The family thanks the staff at Colonial Gardens Assisted Living and especially Joyce Hodges who helped care for Marvin as the Parkinson’s Disease robbed him of his independence.

Because of Covid, no services are planned. Burial at Maple Grove Cemetery is under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
