Martin Hunter

Martin Linsay Hunter, 79, Wetumka area resident, and former Seminole resident, died Friday, February 19, 2016 at his home. Martin was born on January 7, 1937 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Lester Hunter and Eva (Atchison) Hunter. His family later moved to Rodeo, California, where he grew up and attended school. Martin retired from Pacific Gas and Electric in California after many years of service to that company as an electrician. He served as a private in the U.S. Army in 1954. He was also a Mason. Martin loved baseball, woodworking, dominoes and playing games. Being with his family was important to him. He loved his grandchildren and all children gravitated to him and all called him “Papa Marty”. Martin was a “Jack of all trades”, good with his hands, intelligent, thought things through and accomplished many things. Martin married Shirley Janet Turner on March 8, 1958 in San Pablo, California and she preceded him in death on November 14, 2007. Martin is survived by his two daughters, Kelly Diane Currier and Carla Helen Malouf both of Wetumka, Oklahoma, his sister Nina Murphy of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley, his son Robert Hunter and great grandson Nicolas Hunter. Funeral services with Military Honors will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, February 26, 2016 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma, with Pastor Brad Burton officiating at the service. Burial will follow at the Little Cemetery. Casket bearers will be; Jesse Bunyard, Robert Silveria, Robert Malouf, William Malouf, Randall Malouf, Matt Murphy, Brandon Hunter and Robbie Hunter.
