Martha A. Mitchell Barker, 84 year old Tecumseh resident passed from this life Friday, August 18, 2006 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. She was born February 4, 1922 in Canton, Texas to parents Edgar Andrew Strebeck and Ida Mae (Woodruff) Strebeck.rnrnShe married Lewis Raymond Mitchell May 29, 1945. He preceded her in death in 1963. In 1957 she married Edward Tracy Barker. He preceded her in death in 1991.rnrnMrs. Barker was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Maud, Oklahoma where she lived for thirty years before moving to Tecumseh. She was a member of the Shawnee Rebekah Lodge #271.rnrnShe operated Globe Confectionery in Ardmore, Oklahoma and operated two nursing homes in Wilson, Oklahoma. She also had worked at Lantz drugstore in Shawnee, Oklahoma and operated a restaurant in Marietta, Oklahoma. She also enjoyed her work at the Maud School Cafeteria and operated a restaurant with her daughter in Maud, Oklahma. She was head cook at Maud Nutrician Center for several years and was also a homecare provider until 1999.rnrnMrs. Barker ejoyed her grandchildren, pets, and fishing. She enjoyed playing the fiddle, guitar, singing and piecing quilts.rnrnMartha is preceded in death by her husbands, two grandchildren; Deborah Mitchell and Buddy Dean Mitchell. Three sisters; Lillie Harrison, Minnie Donahou and Myrt Smith. Three brothers; Dutch, Archie and George Strebeck.rnrnSurviving are one son, Louis Ray "Buddy" Mitchell of Tecumseh, Oklahoma. Daughter, Edna and husband Bob Montgomery of Tecumseh, Oklahoma.rnrn12 Grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.rnrnGraveside services will be held Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Rosehill Cemetery in Ardmore, Oklahoma with Pastor John Mixon of New Hope Baptist Church, Tecumseh, Oklahoma officiating.rnrnCasket bearers will be grandsons; James Renfro, Dawayne Renfro, Danny Cramer, Rocky Mitchell, Buddy Allen Mitchell and Robbie Mitchell.rnrnServices are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home in Maud, Oklahoma.
