Longtime Seminole resident Marland Tiger passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 in Seminole, Oklahoma at the age of 70. He was born on September 22, 1936 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Edmond and Lucy (McGirt) Tiger. rnrnMarland served in the Army as a paratrooper. He attended Seminole High School; he was inducted into the Seminole Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004. He served on the Seminole Nation General Council from 1993 ? 1997. In 2005 he was elected to the present Seminole Nation Council. He served on the Wewoka I.H.S. Health Advisory Board from 1997-2005. In 2003 he received an award for community leadership while serving as chief executive officer for the Wewoka Indian Health Center. The Seminole Nation Tribal Advisory Board also presented Marland with an award for sustained leadership in the health programs of the community. He was elected to serve as the Seminole Tribal Representative to the Carl Albert Health Board. He served on the Seminole Nation Trust Management Board from 2001- 2005, and was a member of the Cheyarha Presbyterian Church. rnrnOn November 12, 1955 he married Barbara (Clarida) Tiger in Olney, Texas. Barbara survives him of the home. Marland is also survived by two daughters; Melissa and husband Fritz Pasquet of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Monica Heinzig of Seminole, Oklahoma, three brothers: Donald E. Tiger of Seminole, Oklahoma, Pembrook Tiger of Spring Valley, California, Randall J. Tiger of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and three sisters: Opal V. Cloud of Arkansas City, Kansas, Nema Alderman of Wilburton, Oklahoma, and Wanda Barber of Maud, Oklahoma. Also survived by two great aunts, Agnes Pulliam, Juanita Noon, two grandchildren: Brad Heinzig and Dara Heinzig and one great grandchild, Abbey Tinsley, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins and other family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.rnrnWake services are scheduled for 6:00pm, Saturday, February 03, 2007 at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel. Funeral service are scheduled for 2:00pm, Monday February 5, 2007 at Cheyarha Presbyterian Church with Kelly Tiger officiating.
