Marjorie Fern Carter, 95, longtime Seminole and St. Louis, Oklahoma resident, died Wednesday, October 29, 2014 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Marjorie was born December 27, 1918 in Heavener, Oklahoma to Julia (Hall) and Eugene Thomas. During her adult life she was a housewife and co-owner of multiple businesses, which included a dairy farm, Carters Grocery in St. Louis, Oklahoma, M & M Tool, as well as Red Fork Drilling in Seminole with her husband Mark Carter. She moved to Seminole from St. Louis, Oklahoma 35 years ago. She was a member of the Ideal Street Baptist Church in Seminole, where she was the pianist for the church and was very active in all areas of the church for many years. Marjorie married James “Mark “Carter on April 17, 1938 in Wewoka, Oklahoma and he preceded her in death on February 22, 1997. Marjorie is survived by two sons, Jim Carter of Romulus, Oklahoma and Chris Carter and his wife Deneen of Seminole, Oklahoma, three daughters Judy Carter of Cushing, Oklahoma, Barbara O’Reilly and husband Greg of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Angela Lindsay and her husband Harold of Shawnee, Oklahoma, one brother Bob Thomas and his wife Mary of Holdenville, Oklahoma, nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James “Mark” Carter, sisters, Mildred Freer, Lucille Hoglin, brother Bill Thomas and her daughter-in-law Vivian Carter. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Monday, November 3, 2014 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Sparks officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Jay O’Reilly and Mike O’Reilly, James Lindsay, Harold Lindsay, Nathan Vanzant, Kevin Carter. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
