Margie Ellen Nowell, 93 year old longtime Maud, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at her home in Maud. She was born August 22, 1923 at home in Aspermont, Texas to parents Archer Joe Gholson and Flora (Jones) Gholson. Larry Nowell and Margie Gholson met in Wichita Falls, Texas and were married on May 2, 1943 in Waurika, Oklahoma. Larry was a gunner in WWII and Margie worked in an aircraft factory. After the war Larry and Margie lived in Wichita Falls, Texas were they met Edna Ring who sold them some land in Maud, Oklahoma. On April 6, 1953, Margie and Larry moved to Maud. Larry worked at the M and P and then as a pumper for various oil companies in the area. Margie worked for Sylvania. She was also a homemaker, mother and helped raise cattle on their farm. Margie was a member of the Cook-Harjo Extension Club for over 35 years. Margie was proud that all three of her children had graduated from Maud High School and went on to further their education. Sadly her husband of 53 years, Larry Nowell preceded her in death. Margie being of strong will and character continued to farm the land and raise cattle on the same land they had purchased in 1953. She always enjoyed a good joke, was quick witted and expected nothing less than hard work. Margie loved her family with everything she had. In her later years Margie was not one to lay idle. She was in the cattle fields every day and even up to the end of her life she would sit in her truck and give orders to the farm hands she had hired to do the things she could no longer do. Her children would step in to help and Margie was quick to voice her opinion if things were not going the way she thought they should. Margie lived a good life and passed away at her farm home where the family had made so many memories.
