Margaret Joan Marquis, 82 Margaret Joan “Jo” Marquis long time Seminole resident passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013 in Seminole, Oklahoma at the age of 82. Joan was born on April 10, 1931 in Bowlegs, Oklahoma to parents, Thomas Franklin Nelon and Cora Bell (Brown) Nelon. She was born and raised in Seminole and lived here off and on for 40 years. Joan received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and taught in Van, Texas for 5 years. She was a member of the Seminole Church of Christ, O.C.W.A. and for 15 years she was the clerical secretary for the Voice of Freedom, a magazine, published by the Church of Christ. Joan married Billy G. Marquis on April 23, 1948 in Seminole, Oklahoma. Joan is survived by her husband, Billy Marquis; three daughters, Brenda Lozano of Lindale, Texas, Linda Silvey of Mineola, Texas and Cindy Chambers of Midland, Texas; one brother Cecil Nelon of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one sister, Peggy Jackson, of Seminole, Oklahoma, seven grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Cora Bell Nelon; one brother, Dale Nelon and three sisters, Gladys Farmer, Elena Tuttle and Polly Patterson. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 31, 2013, at the Church of Christ of Seminole, Oklahoma with Chris Stinnett officiating. Burial will take place at Little Cemetery, Seminole County, Oklahoma. Casket bearers: Michael Lozano, Alan McCracken, Luke Chambers, Anthony Campos, Terry Silvey and Jason Phelps.
