Mabel Carter passed away on April 3, 2009. She was born on December 16, 1915 to George and Minnie Foreman in Little, Oklahoma. She graduated from Prairie Valley High School and then went on to earn her bachelor?s degree from East Central University in 1937.rnrnMabel married John Woodford Carter on December 22, 1945. They built the family home together, and she loved to tell the story of the fifty-two concrete blocks they made each day. rnrnMabel worked for the State of Oklahoma as the Seminole County Administrator of the Department of Human Services and as a social worker for over forty years. After she retired in 1986, she devoted herself to the Interfaith Food Pantry in Seminole. Helping families in need was always one of Mabel?s passions. She also loved to bowl and sponsored a bowling team of her friends, Carter?s Little Pills, which traveled across the country to tournaments.rnrnHowever, it was her four grandchildren who were her greatest passion in life. Whether it was going to work with her, helping at the food pantry, or just going to the beauty parlor, her grandchildren loved to spend time with her. The love she poured into their lives is her greatest legacy.rnrnMabel was preceded in death by her parents, George and Minnie Foreman, her husband, John Carter; her two sisters, Madine Johnson and Juanice Starr; and her grandson, Christopher Connor. She is survived by her two daughters, Linda Jeanette Golliver and her husband Bob of San Antonio, Texas; and Rebecca Ann Nix and her husband, John of Houston, Texas; her brother, Milo Foreman and his wife Norma of Prague, Oklahoma; her half-brother Cecil Foreman of Maud, Oklahoma; her brother-in-law, Bill Starr of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and her four treasured grandchildren, Lashelle, Daren and his wife Camille, Ryan, and Julie and her husband Philip, and two great-grandchildren Claire and Carter.rnrnThe funeral service will be held at Little Cemetery on Monday, April 6, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Gary Wilburn officiating. rnrnPallbearers will be her grandsons, Daren Nix, Ryan Golliver, Philip Woods, and her nephews, Kenneth Johnson, Ronnie Johnson, Bill Johnson, Dick Starr, Karl Foreman, Brent Foreman, and Lance Foreman. Honorary pallbearers are her granddaughters, Lashelle Nix, Julie Woods, and Camille Nix, her nieces, Beverly Moore, Mary Crossley, and Ann Lason . rnrnThe family of Mabel Carter would like to express their deep gratitude and appreciation to the caregivers at Edenbrook Assisted Living and American Hospice for their comfort and care.
