Lyle Bates

Lyle DeWayne Bates, Seminole county resident passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at his home in Seminole county at the age of 85. Lyle was born May 4, 1932 in Sioux City, Iowa to parents, Ernest Ralph Bates and Mildred Irene (Burgett) Bates. Lyle served in the United States Army earning the rank of corporal, during the Korea War. Lyle was employed as a machinist with McCracken Industry, a truck driver with Tollie Freight, served as a deputy sheriff with Ashley county in Hamburg, Arkansas and was the minister at The Church of God of The First Born of Seminole, Oklahoma.   Lyle married Ethel Griffin on September 30, 1960 in Council Bluff, Iowa. Lyle is survived by his wife Ethel of the home; two sons, Ralph Bates and his wife Roberta of Meeker, Oklahoma, Roy Bates and his wife Debra of Earlsboro, Oklahoma; four daughters, Linda Carter who lives in Wellston, Oklahoma, Sherry Freeman of Prague, Oklahoma, Pamela Barfield of Stigler, Oklahoma, Donna Allen and her husband Randy of Houston, Texas; brothers, Gerald Bates of North Sioux City, South Dakota and Dennis Bates of Cooksville, Tennessee and sister, Carol Descamp of Brooksville, Florida. Grandchildren: Jalinda and Warren Bowman, Brandon Freeman, Matthew Freeman, Terry Barfield and Gina, Jason Barfield and Amanda, Aaron Talley, Alexis Lonelodge, Andrea Talley, Dixon and Amanda Bates, Kaitlyn Bates and Micky Bowles, Clayton and Cassie Collier, Caleb Collier, Joseph Collier, Randy Lee Allen, Steven Talley and Joshua Talley; great-grandchildren, Jakala, Jayden, Lakato, Nikita, Toby, Jessemine, Nevaeh, Alyssa, Raylee, Amber, Ryland, Austin, Cole, Andrea Collier, Evan, Caleb Jr., McKinlee, Charlie and Dahlia. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Norma Jean Carpenter and brother, Harold Bates. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Jim Hatfield and Darrell Whitten officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Casket bearers will be grandsons: Terry Barfield, Jason Barfield, Clayton Collier, Joseph Collier, Caleb Collier and Randy Lee Allen.
