Lurena Douglas

Lurena (Gaulding) Douglas, 95 year-old, Earlsboro, Oklahoma resident passed from this life on Valentine’s Day February 14, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Shawnee, Oklahoma.  She was born September 4, 1917 in Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma to parents Charlie Gaulding and Louella (Reed) Gaulding.  She was the second of four children.  They all preceded her in death. Lurena united with the New Hope Baptist Church of Earlsboro, Oklahoma in 1930 under the leadership of Rev. G.W. Lane.  She later joined Emmanuel Temple of Praise and Deliverance in the year of 1999 where she remained a faithful member until the Lord called her home. Lurena attended Hatulka School near Harjo, Oklahoma and Dunbar High School in Shawnee, Oklahoma.  She joined New Harmony singers in 1965 where she was a very loyal member.  Lurena was also past president of the Senior Mission of New Hope Church. Lurena was the mother of two daughters, Jaennetta Reed and Alversa Hardiman. Her parents, three husbands, one granddaughter, Robin Moore and one great-great grandson, Matthew Wytch, also preceded Lurena in death. Lurena leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Jaennetta Reed (Tredell Reed), of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Alversa Hardiman of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, seven grandchildren, Russell Gaulding of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Norma Wycth (Steve Wycth), of Oakland, California, Adrain Gaulding of San Francisco, California, Ruth Weatherspoon (Jerome Weatherspoon) of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Alberta Burrows of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Lurena Russell (Lenard Russell) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Clarence Conway Jr. (Ghemelle Conway) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  Nineteen great-grandchildren and eighteen great great grandchildren as well as a host of other relatives and a host of friends also survive her. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Emmanuel Temple of Praise and Deliverance located at 37406 Westech Road in Shawnee, Oklahoma.  Pastor Odell Hardeman will be officiating the service.  Interment will follow at Earlsboro Cemetery in Earlsboro, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
