Lula Kay Harjo

Lula Kay Harjo, 62 year old Seminole resident passed from this life on Monday, March 30, 2015 at her sister's home.  She was born September 16, 1952 in Claremore, Oklahoma to parents, Samsochee Harjo and Imogene (Little) Harjo. Lula graduated from Strother High School in 1970.  She was also a member of Hitchittee Methodist Church. Lula started working at the Seminole, “Blue Bell Blue Jean Company,” before it became “Wrangler,” she had also worked as a dietary aid.  She was also a longtime homemaker. Survivors include; one son, Pete W. Harjo and his wife Patricia of Seminole, Oklahoma; one daughter, Kimberly Stephens and her husband Claud III of Wewoka, Oklahoma; three brothers, Percy Harjo and his wife Julie of Antlers, Oklahoma, Bruce Harjo and his wife Gail of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Nathaniel Harjo and his wife Jackie of Seminole, Oklahoma; five sisters, Mary Jackson and her husband Abe of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Mildrid Harjo of Seminole, Oklahoma, Delois Harjo of Earlsboro, Oklahoma, Renae Larney and her husband Travis of Seminole, Oklahoma, Channon Harjo of Seminole, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Peter Harjo, Jennifer Harjo, Kimbrie Strayhorn, Shemmario Stephens, Shemmei Stephens, Shallomar Stephens, Shiloh Harjo, Jordan Fixico; two great-grandchildren, Ambry Harjo, Evelyn Harjo; two aunts, Bessie Spencer of Seminole, Oklahoma, Juanita Wise of Seminole, Oklahoma and a host of other family and dear friends. Lula was preceded in death by her mother, Imogene (Little) Harjo, by her father, Samsochee Harjo, by one son, Darren Strayhorn, and by her former husband and the father of her children, Gary Strayhorn. A wake service is scheduled for Wednesday, April 1, 2015 and Thursday, April 2, 2015 at the Seminole Nation Community Center near Strother School.  The body will be taken to the Community Center on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. and returned to Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 3, 2015 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma.  Abe Jackson and Ray Tainpeah will officiate the service. Casket Bearers will be: Allen Jackson, Sam Harjo, Jacob Harjo, Eric Harjo, Isiah Harjo, Echo Johnson, Jonathan Harjo, and Joseph Harjo. Honorary Bearers will be: Po Larney, Sam Spencer, Cody Harjo and Trey Spencer. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
