Lucille (Birdwell) Copley

December 26, 1941 — September 5, 2020

Lucille Copley, age 78, passed away September 5, 2020 at her daughter’s home in Maud, Oklahoma. She was born December 26, 1941 in Maud, Oklahoma to parents James Rufus Birdwell and Bessie (Wood) Birdwell. She grew up in Konawa/Maud area and moved to Seminole and then on to Anchorage, Alaska/ She came back to Oklahoma in the mid 90’s and lived in Checotah and Harrah until finally moving back to Konawa in 2017. She married Gene Copley on February 13, 2009 in the VA Chapel in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Sadly, he passed away June 5, 2015.

Lucille enjoyed traveling, fishing and dancing. She loved to see new places and experienced life to the fullest. She vacationed and cruised to Jamaica, Mexico, Hawaii, Las Vegas and California. She fished in most of the rivers in Alaska, deep sea fished, skied the slopes at Alyeska Resort and watched the sled dog races. She was known for her fabulous “country cookin” and she was always smiling.

Lucille was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Life Member Aux #8798 in Eufaula, Oklahoma. She worked as a home health aide for numerous different companies.

Lucille is survived by her son; Tommy Ranells and his wife Lorane of Rileyville, Virginia and daughters; Shelia McCracken and her husband Johnnie of Maud, Oklahoma and Cindy Jarvis and her husband Jeremiah of Konawa, Oklahoma, step-children; William Copley and his wife Lawana of Texas, Jason Copley and wife Shelia of New Mexico, Jarrod Copley of Texas, Melinda Christiansen of Utah and Jessica James of New Mexico, grandchildren; Joseph, Taylor, Tommy Lee, Wesley, Sierra, Micheala, Thomas and Morgan and Jeremiah M. and great-grandchild; Shelby Ranells. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Fred Ranells, brothers Roy George Birdwell and Thomas Franklyn Birdwell and nephew, Thomas Franklyn Birdwell, Jr.

Funeral services for Lucille will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 11, 2020 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Bobby Shatto officiating. Burial will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud, Oklahoma.

Casket bearers will be Ritchie Birdwell, Stephen Birdwell, Thomas Sutton, Thomas Jarvis, Wesley Jackson and Derrick Bourque.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
