Loyd Monks, age 86 and a resident of Seminole, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Wewoka Care Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma. Rev. Larry Chesser will officiate and burial will follow at Little Cemetery. Pallbearers are Mike Sherrin, Eric Haworth, Matthew Jenkins, Carl Miller, John Raines, and Mike White. Honorary pallbearers are Gene Beller, Bill Miller, Rustyn Jones, Brad Hinton, Eugene White, Jake Dourough, and Mark Echelle. Loyd was born on October 10, 1928 in Foss, Oklahoma to Elsworth Monks and Rosa Mae (Shaw) Monks. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1962 in the Korean War. He married Wanda Lee Secrest on January 15, 1959 in Denison, Texas. He moved to Seminole from Caddo, County in 1975. He was a member of the Gleaner Holiness Church of Wewoka, and he was as a pipeline worker for many years. He worked at Commercial Brick until he retired. He is survived by one son, Tommy Monks and wife, Frances of Bowlegs, Oklahoma; one daughter, Deborah Jones of Wewoka, Oklahoma; one brother, Clay Monks and wife, Shirley of Meeker, Oklahoma; one sister, Barbara Hawthrone of Ocean Side, California; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; a host of friends and family; and the entire Tradio Community. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wanda Monks; one son, Raymond “Skippy” Ussery; eight brothers and sisters.
