Loretta May Newman, 82, longtime Seminole resident, died, Thursday, March 6, 2014, in Chandler, Oklahoma. Loretta was born February 1, 1932 in Heavener, Oklahoma to Pearlie Lottie May (Vincent) Leach and Luther Clinton Leach. Loretta was a Seminole resident for over 44 years. For the past 3 years she lived in Chandler, Oklahoma with her daughter. Loretta was a nurse in California for many years before returning to Oklahoma where she was a homemaker and also helped families with their homes. She also worked at the Blue Bell Plant (Now Wrangler). She was a member of the Bowlegs Baptist Church. Loretta retired in 1995. Loretta loved to crochet, dance, play dominoes, card games like uno and canasta. She loved family gatherings where she got to cook for her family. Loretta married Paul B. Newman on March 8, 1947 and he preceded her in death on September 15, 1982. Loretta is survived by her three sons and daughter-in-law’s, Terry and Donna Newman of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Roy Newman of Noble, Oklahoma and Steve and Diana Newman of Holdenville, Oklahoma, her two daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Keith Dinwiddie of Noble, Oklahoma and Donna and Billy Buchanan of Chandler, Oklahoma. She is also survived by; eleven grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Paul Newman, her brother, Don Smith, her sister, Mary Savage, a daughter, Sharon Lewis and a son-in-law, Robert Lewis. Funeral services are planned for 1:00 P.M., Sunday, March 9, 2014 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial will take place at Yeager Cemetery, northeast of Holdenville, Oklahoma. Her casket bearers will be her grandsons. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
