Loretta Hammersley, 65, former longtime resident, died Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Intergris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma after a lengthy illness. Loretta was born August 9, 1946 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Bonnie T. and Lillian (Elliott) Goss. Loretta grew up in Seminole and attended Seminole Public Schools. She was a beautician and owned and operated Foxy Locks Beauty Salon for over 20 years in Seminole. After she retired she moved to the Eufaula Lake area with her husband and has been there the past 15 years. She married Jim Hammersley on February 3, 1964 in Seminole, Oklahoma and he survives her of the home. Loretta was a loving person, who cared for her family and they were important to her. She loved the holidays and especially Christmas. She loved to decorate and be with her husband, children and grandchildren. Her family remembers her as having a passion for cooking and being an excellent cook. She loved to bake and minister to family and neighbors through her baking. She was active in the Women’s Auxiliary of the V.F.W. in Eufaula, Oklahoma and helped support the Enterprise Oklahoma Fire Department by baking for “ Bake sales” and other fund-raising events. She loved to travel and shop with her daughter. Laughter was everywhere in her life and she had a laugh that was contagious and people remembered. Loretta leaves to cherish her memories her husband Jim Hammersley of Stigler, Oklahoma, her daughter and son-in-law Kandy and Doug Jones of Muskogee, Oklahoma and son and daughter-in-law Kane and Nova Hammersley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Her grandchildren Shena Jones of Chicago, Illinois and Kastle Jones of Boston, Massachusetts, Tate and Sophia Hammersley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma also survive her. Her sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Dale Drumright of Seminole, Oklahoma, Bonnie and Bud Whaley of Pocola, Oklahoma and Brenda Collums of Norman, Oklahoma and a sister-in-law Gloria Sue Nickcevich of Enterprise, Oklahoma and nurmerous nieces, nephews and cousins, also survive Loretta. Memorial services will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the Strothers Memorial Chapel inside Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
