Linda Parkhurst

Linda Lee Parkhurst, 89, longtime Seminole resident, died Monday, November 17, 2014 in McLoud, Oklahoma. Linda was born November 9, 1925 in Mulberry, Arkansas to Emily Catherine (Mainord) and John Luther Sullivan Harris. Linda was a First Grade teacher at Wilson Elementary in Seminole for many years; she retired from teaching in 1993. During the 1940’s she worked for Gulf Oil Company as a secretary and pipe counter and later worked at Atlantic Richfield in Wyoming. She was a graduate of Seminole State College and East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma where she received her masters of education. Linda was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Seminole, Oklahoma, and while in Canada with her husband Bob’s work, she was active as a Sunday school teacher at the First Nazarene Church in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Linda loved making ceramics, sewing and quilting. She married Bobby Dan Parkhurst on October 31, 1944 in Seminole, Oklahoma and he preceded her in death in 1979. Linda is survived by her daughter, Danaglee Dill and her husband Joe Eddie of Shawnee, Oklahoma, one brother and sister-in-law, J. Glen and Betty Harris of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, a sister-in-law, Judith K. Hill of Collinsville, Oklahoma, granddaughter, Nalea Zissa of Edmond, Oklahoma and two great grandchildren, Alissa Meadows and Chance Meadows, two nephews, David Harris and Kenneth Lee White, Jr. two nieces, Vickie Schuler and Saundra Sue White, three great nieces, Paige Harris, Tiffany and Tara Schuler and a great nephew, Chace Schuler, aunt, Wanda McPherron of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, she was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Ginna Vee White, and brother-in-law, Kenneth Lee White. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 21, 2014 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Les Hastings of Good Shepherd Hospice officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice at 4350 Will Rogers Parkway, Suite 400, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73108 Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
