Levi Whitson

Levi Whitson, 89 year old, Bay Point, California resident passed from this life on Monday, March 24, 2014 at his home in California.  He was born July 25, 1924 in Seminole, Oklahoma to parents Loyd F. Whitson and Leavonia (Alexander) Whitson. After attending school at Bowlegs and working on a farm in Iowa.  Whitson went on to join the United States Navy.  He was stationed somewhere in the Pacific on the Battleship USS Tennessee.  He was part of a powerful Naval Task Force that destroyed the remaining Japanese Surface Force.  He was honorably discharged on October 3, 1945 as Seaman First Class, USNR. Following his service to our Country, Levi went on to work for a civilian oil company as an underwater welder until his retirement. Whitson is survived by five sisters, Leona Burns of Borger, Texas, Lennie Knight of Salem, Oregon, Laura Jackson of Leesville, Louisiana, Lillian Stafford of Bowlegs, Oklahoma, and Loloa Green of Seminole, Oklahoma; one son, Rex Lee Whitson of Houston, Texas.  Levi is also survived by a host of other family and friends including Pablo Lopez who helped care for him in his final days. Levi is preceded in death by his parents and by one brother, Leon Whitson. Graveside services were held today, Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Thrace Cemetery in Bowlegs, Oklahoma.  Rev. Roy Robertson officiated the service. Services were under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
