Leota Rawls

Leota Luella (Gregg) Rawls, 78 year old longtime Saint Louis, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at Hospice Quality Care in Midwest City, Oklahoma.  She was born July 28, 1938 in Asher, Oklahoma to parents Roy Vernon Gregg and Thelma Irene (Matthews) Gregg. On June 1, 1956 in Romulus, Oklahoma, Leota married Haskell “Doyle” Rawls.  The couple raised their children in Saint Louis.  While Doyle worked for Grace Petroleum and York International as a pumper for 29 years, Leota was always busy raising their family. The family attended the First Baptist Church in Saint Louis.  Leota served as cook at Saint Louis Elementary School from 1974 until the school closed. She had the opportunity to help raise many children in the Saint Louis Community.  In 1983-1984 she was awarded Cook of the year.  She loved to be active in every activity going on with her family and Community.  She was truly an icon at Saint Louis Public School and in the Saint Louis Community.  Most of all she was the matriarch of her family and will truly be missed. Later in life Leota enjoyed playing bingo and going to the Casinos and if she caught someone on her machine, “Watch Out”. Leota leaves to cherish her memory three sons; Vernon Rawls and his wife Kathy of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Steven Rawls of Norman, Oklahoma, Erick Rawls and his wife Johnnie of Shawnee, Oklahoma; one daughter, Norma Rawls of Macomb, Oklahoma; one brother, Jimmy Gregg and his wife Ladonna of Asher, Oklahoma; one sister, Susie Thompson and her husband Jack of Asher, Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren, April, Bryan, Stephen, Chris, Kimber, Carolyn, Tabitha, Annabell, Riker, Skylar, Amber, Orion and Brianna; 5 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and dear friends. Leota was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Thelma Gregg; by her husband, Doyle Rawls who died April 25, 2011; by one daughter, Loretta; by one daughter-in-law, Toni Rawls who died December 26, 2015; by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Fay and Jim McManus, Kay and Al Flynn; one sister-in-law, Debbie Gregg; and by one brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Linda Gregg who died July 31, 2009. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Rev. Brent McCutchean officiating the service.  Loeta will be laid to rest next to her husband of 55 years in the Wanette Cemetery. Casket Bearers will be: Derrick Gregg, Ryan Gregg, Booper Thompson, Ricky Thompson, Justin Thompson, Travis Gregg and Tommy Gregg. Honorary Bearers will be: Brian Rawls and Stephen Rawls.
