Leondis Odell “Cotton” Pulliam, 89, former longtime Seminole resident, died Friday April 6, 2018 at Midland Memorial Hospital in Midland, Texas. Cotton was born November 19, 1928 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Ben Pulliam and Ada (Hudson) Pulliam. He grew up in Seminole and attended Varnum Public Schools and graduated from Prairie View High School west of the Little Community. Cotton worked in the oilfields his entire working career starting out in Odessa, Texas as a roughneck. Later he became an oil well drilling contractor and owned and operated his own drilling company. When he was not working he was always spending time with his family, taking them places and to ballgames. He was a big baseball fan and he loved to watch the Midland Rock Hounds, a semi-pro baseball team, play. He was a big OU baseball and football fan, also a Midland College baseball fan, and he loved to work crossword puzzles, especially the puzzles from the New York Times Paper. He married Donna (Villines) Pulliam on August 19, 1947 in Seminole, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on August 27, 2012. Cotton is survived by his son Monty Pulliam and his wife Karen of Midland, Texas, one daughter Diana Velasquez and her husband, Tom, of Yukon, Oklahoma, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Donna and seven siblings. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma, with Rev. Michael Vallandingham officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole, Oklahoma. Casket bearers will be; Jake Pulliam, Tommy “Bubba” Velasquez, Alexander Cantu, Joshua Cantu, Vincent Cantu and Randall Scannell.
