March 18, 1955 — August 12, 2014

Leonard Edwin Kaney, 59 year old former Seminole resident passed from this life on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Rose Manor Care Center in Shawnee, Oklahoma.  He was born March 18, 1955 in Talihina, Oklahoma to parents James Kaney, Sr. and Lula (Harjo) Kaney. Wake services will be held at 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 18, 2014 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole with Jimpsey Harjo and Arthur Carpitcher officiating the service.  Interment will follow at High Springs Cemetery in Konawa, Oklahoma. Leonard had been disabled from birth.  He had brought so much love, joy and inspiration to the family and he will be deeply missed.  He was a member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma. Leonard leaves to cherish his memory one brother, James Kaney, Jr. of Shawnee, Oklahoma; two sisters, Elmina Kaney Felson of Seminole, Oklahoma, Faye Kaney Coody of Seminole, Oklahoma; four nieces, Devne Felson, Winona Felson Lamb, Wenayv Fixico, Lesley Fixico; two nephews, Leighton Felson, Kyle Coody; two grand-nieces, Kyleigh Fixico, Reina Felson Lamb; four grand-nephews, Gavin Hill, Jerrod Hill, Jordon Coody, and Chris Coody; and a host of other family and dear friends. Leonard was preceded in death by his father, James Kaney Sr.; by his mother, Lula Harjo Kaney; by one brother, Henry Willie Kaney; by one sister, Joyce Kaney Fixico; by his grandmother, Yahanah Morgan; by his paternal grandfather, Willie Kaney; by his maternal grandfather, John Harjo; by one nephew, Micco Coody; by three uncles, Leslie Harjo, Cecil Harjo, Charlie D. Harjo and by one aunt, Imogene Harjo Tobias. Casket Bearers will be: Josh Penuel, Travis Weaver, Bobby Lena, Mike Jefferson, Kyle Coody, Ken Meashintubby, and Brad Arthur. Honorary Bearers will be: Joe “Pennyman” Alex, Leighton Felson, Clem George, Tommy Harjo, Kelly Fixico, Eddie Coleman, Steve Huckaby, Robert Meashintubby, Doug Meashintubby, and Floyd Johnson.
