Leona Maxwell

Leona Violet (McWilliams) Ogden Maxwell, 97 year-old, lifelong Seminole resident passed from this life Wednesday, November 23, 2011 in Seminole, Oklahoma.  She was born February 16, 1914 in Murphy, Oklahoma to parents Fred Haden McWilliams and Ada Mae (Stamper) McWilliams. Leona’s father died of typhoid fever when she was 6 months old.  Her mother married Albert “Bert” Luckinbill when Leona was 2 years old.  Leona went on to graduate from Seminole High School in 1931. Leona married Joseph Earl Ogden and he preceded her in death in 1965.  Later she married James Sinclair Maxwell in 1968. Leona was a member of the Seminole First United Methodist Church where she was active in U.M.W., she taught the Wedding Ring Sunday School Class, she was Chairman Council on Ministries and was a Member of the District 1000 Club. Leona was co-owner of Maxwell Engine & Supply in Seminole.  She was also a Real Estate Broker and Investor.  Leona was also a Business and Tax Accountant. Leona enjoyed being very active in her community where she was inducted into the Seminole Hall of Fame; also in 1987 awarded Seminole Chamber of Commerce Citizen of The Year; National Republican Legislative Conference where she was the Senior Citizen Delegate to Washington, D.C.; she served on the Oklahoma Historical Society – National Smithsonian as a board member; President of the Business and Professional Women’s Club; American Heart Association Women of the year; American Heart Association Seminole County Chairman and State Secretary; Board Member and Chairman of the Hospital Committee; served on the Directors of Oklahoma Health Systems Agency as a board member; served as Chairman of the Salvation Army Advisory Council; awarded Who’s Who Personalities of the South; and recognized by the American Biographical Institute’s International Directory of Distinguished Leadership. Her husbands, her father, stepfather, mother, one daughter Patricia Stockton, son-in-law David Fletcher, granddaughter Kim Decker, sisters and brothers-in-law, Vera Fay and Ray Prater and Norma Jeanne and Ralph Gosa, precede Leona in death. Survivors include her daughter, Colleen Fletcher of Seminole, Ok; grandchildren, Terry and Pam Fletcher of Seminole, Steve and Shanna Fletcher of Bixby, Ok, Rob and Stephanie Fletcher of Seminole, Ok, Cynthia Rudich of Shawnee, Ok, Teresa Norman of Seminole, Ok; great-grandchildren, Casady Fletcher, Peyton Fletcher, Morgan Fletcher, Ragan Fletcher, Talon Fletcher and David Fletcher; great-great-grandchildren, Scott Decker and Jesse Mendinghall; great-great-great grandchildren, Nolan Decker and Conlan Decker; two special family friends, Leslie Blazer and Jacob Blazer; and a host of other family and dear friends. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Marvin Kehl officiating the service, assisted by Matt Pollock and a special tribute from her grandson, Terry Fletcher.  Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole, Oklahoma. Casket Bearers will be: Terry Fletcher, Steve Fletcher, Rob Fletcher, Casady Fletcher, Talon Fletcher, Morgan Fletcher, Scott Decker, Jesse Mendinghall and Jacob Blazer. Honorary Bearers will be: C.M. Clark, Melvin Moran, Cecil Sullivan, Mark Phelps, Jerry Reed, David Boren and Robert Harjo. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
