Leon Cook

Leon S. “Jack” Cook, 86   Leon “Jack” Cook long time Seminole, Oklahoma resident passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Tecumseh, Oklahoma at the age of 86.   Jack was born December 12, 1925 in Perry, Oklahoma to parents, Abram Floyd Cook and Edna Catherine (Noll) Cook. Jack moved to Seminole on Labor Day, 1950 from Enid, Oklahoma. After graduating from high school he attended A&M College and graduated in 1949. He also was a member of the First Baptist Church of Perry, Oklahoma and a member of the Masonic Lodges of Garber and Perry, Oklahoma.   Jack married “Yvonne” Orene Dunham on October 1, 1949 in Medford, Oklahoma.   Jack served in the United States Army during World War II. While serving in the military he was in the Rhineland Central Europe Campaign, he received the World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, EAME Theater Ribbon, two Bronze Service Stars, Army of occupation Ribbon (Germany). On April 1945, he was wounded and was  awarded the Purple Heart.   Jack is survived by his wife of 63 years, Yvonne of the home, three daughters; Janice Talbott and her husband Virgil of Crestview, Florida, Joyce Boyd and her husband Frank of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Barbara Cook of Austin,Texas  and one brother Calvin C. Cook and his wife Lorraine of Grand Junction, Colorado. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; Preston Talbott, Lee Boyd, Russell Boyd, Jacquelyn Boyd, Ashley Stark, John Haney IV, Jessee Cook-Haney and a great grandchild on the way.   Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Edna and A.F. Cook, two sisters; Leona Smith and Delma McNabb, three brothers; Floyd Cook, Jr., Glenn Messick and Ellison Messick.   Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2012 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Edmond, Oklahoma.     Services under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole, Oklahoma.
