Leo James Stephens, 91, longtime Seminole resident died Saturday, April 6, 2013 in Seminole. Leo was born November 1, 1921 in Egypt, Oklahoma to Charles James and Nannie Elizabeth (Myers) Stephens. Leo moved to Seminole in 1954 from California. Leo was a member of the Bowlegs First Baptist Church and had retired from working in the Seminole oilfields in 1987; his last employment was with Morgan’s Well Service. Leo’s passion was poetry and music. He had his own personal music ministry to area nursing homes. He also won many awards for his poems. He married Marie Courtney on June 13, 1961 in Hugo, Oklahoma. His wife Marie Stephens of Seminole, Oklahoma; his daughters Sharon Stephens of Wetumka, Oklahoma, Cynthia Mulkey of Wellston, Oklahoma, Debbie Anson and Linda Yancey of Seminole, Oklahoma; a son Ron Lashley of Carrollton, Texas; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren as well as a host of family and friends survive him. Leo was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Raymond Lee Stephens; two sisters, Thelma Marie Stephens and Connie Faye Le Grande; three sons, Larry James Stephens, Johnny Lashley and Roger Lashley and one daughter, Darlene Collums. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at the Little Chapel at Little Cemetery with Rev. Andy Quinten of the Bowlegs First Baptist Church officiating. Casket bearers will be his grandsons; Robby Collums, Danny Collums, Donny Collums, Brad Lashley, Chad Lashley, Rodney Lashley. Funeral Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
