Leo “Jabber” Winston Burgess, age 68 and a resident of Konawa, Oklahoma passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center in Ada, Oklahoma. The first wake service is scheduled from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30th at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa, Oklahoma. On Wednesday, July 31st at 4:00 p.m., Jabber will be taken to High Springs Baptist Church for the second wake service scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 1st at High Springs Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery. Rev. Kellos Walker and Rev. Dorsey Nero will officiate. Pallbearers are Michael Narcomey, Donald Narcomey, Kenneth Moore, Leo Alexander, Jr., Matthew Foster, and Herman Foster. Honorary Pallbearers are Charles Sewell, Tommy Frazier, Ricky Burgess, Jr., and Mike Burgess. Jabber was born on July 18, 1945 in Konawa to Anderson Burgess and Juanita Kathryn (Factor) Burgess. He was a member of the National Guard for 23 years and Konawa’s Police Dispatcher for approximately 10 years. He was also a member of the Seminole Arbeka Church. Leo loved to “clown around” and “cut up” with people, and to give everyone a “hard time”, but he was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He will be missed in the community. Jabber is survived by one brother, Rev. Amon Burgess of Konawa; one aunt, Ellen Burgess of Konawa; six close cousins, William Campbell of El Reno, Oklahoma, Bob Campbell of Amarillo, Texas, Joammie Wood of Sasakwa, Oklahoma, Mahonta Jo Burgess of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Cora Osborne of Konawa, Oklahoma, and Sara Jane Thomas of Wetumpka, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anderson and Juanita Burgess; and two brothers, Frankie Burgess and June “Sonny” Burgess.
