Lee Conley

Lee (Sparkman) Conley, 94 year-old, Seminole resident passed from this life on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at her home in Seminole.  She was born October 1, 1914 in Lindsay, Oklahoma to parents Thomas Lee Sparkman and Betty Pearl (Brookshere) Sparkman. Lee graduated from New Lima High School in 1933 and remained an active member of the New Lima Alumni Association throughout her life. Lee worked for the Department of Defense in Washington D.C. where she had held many different positions, including Directorate of Programs.  She retired from the Pentagon with 29 years of service in 1974. She married Kenneth Conley on May 3, 1979 in North Platte, Nebraska.  He preceded her in death on October 2, 1987. Following her retirement and the death of her husband she returned to Seminole to be near her family.  She loved to work in the yard and enjoyed her beautiful flowers.  Lee was of the Baptist faith. She leaves to cherish her memory her nieces and nephews; Jim and Rhonda Collier, David and Patty Austin, Tom and Charlotte Austin, Bob and Jeannie Austin, Steve Sparkman, Susan Alcorn Cossey, Gerald Wayne Alcorn, Betty and Kenny Lambrecht, Dal White, C. Kelley and Richard Black, Sharon Kelley and David Lankert, P.K. Martino, Tommy Gene and Tammy Austin, Mike and Lou Kelley; and many other great and great-great nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and dear friends including a special friend Virgil Lamastus. Mrs. Conley is preceded in death by her parents Betty and Lee Sparkman; two brothers, Melvin and Bill Sparkman; five sisters, Grace Alcorn, Marie Austin, Flo Collier, Eileen Kelley, Thelma White; and by two beloved husbands, Jack Burd and Kenneth Conley. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 22, 2009 at the Community of Christ Church in Seminole.  Freeman Whitlock and Carl Edgerton will officiate the service.  Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Casket Bearers will be: Kory Collier, Russell Collier, Tommy Austin, Caleb Austin, Chuck Austin, Jeff Austin and Robert Austin. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home – Seminole, Oklahoma.
