Leatrice Newkham

Leatrice V. "Peach" Newkham, 94 year old, long- time Maud resident passed from this life on January 9, 2007 at Norman Regional Hospital in Norman, Oklahoma. She was born September 5, 1912 in Frederick, Oklahoma to parents E.E. Ashmore and Stella May (Phipps) Ashmore. rn rnLeatrice married George Wrather Newkham on August 12, 1937 in Maud, Oklahoma. Mrs. Newkham worked as a clerk for the Maud Post Office for 20 years. She was a long time member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Maud, Oklahoma becoming a member in 1937. rn rnMrs. Newkham was also very active in the Order of the Eastern Star since 1953. She also was a member of the Maud Historical Society, U.M.W. and served as a "Pink Lady" at Seminole Hospital. Mrs. Newkham also enjoyed oil painting and playing canasta!! rn rnShe leaves to cherish her memory, two sons and two daughters-in-law, Jim D. Newkham and his wife Sandy of Waco, Texas and B. Michael Newkham and his wife Susan of Norman, Oklahoma. rn rnFive grandchildren; Danielle (Newkham) Kindle of Sheffield, Alabama, Nicole Newkham of Dallas, Texas, Megan (Newkham) Cash of Moore, Oklahoma, Michael G. Newkham & wife Amanda of Huffman, Texas and Matthew Newkham of Spring, Texas. rn rnFive great grandchildren; Jackson and Kelsey Newkham of Huffman, Texas, twins Aaron & Michael Cash of Moore, Oklahoma and Kaitlin Kindle of Sheffield, Alabama. rn rnFuneral Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2007 at St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Maud, Oklahoma. Rev. Gene Teel will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud, Oklahoma. rn rnLeatrice is preceded in death by her parents, E.E. and May Ashmore, husband Wrather Newkham (January 1973) and by her sister, Ruby Lovelady (2006). rn rnThe family has designated St. Mark's United Methodist Church as appropriate for memorial donations, P.O.
