Leafus Lee Island, Wewoka resident, passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2021, in Wewoka, Oklahoma. He was born on October 21, 1938 in Jones, Oklahoma to Joe and Annie (Shelton) Island.
Leafus loved and raised many of his nieces and nephews. He would have their meals ready as soon as they arrived home from school. He always made sure they had their nighty night snack of popcorn. Leafus enjoyed taking long walks daily. He enjoyed playing dominoes with his friends, spending time with his family and friends. Some of his hobbies included working on cars, cooking, plumbing and watching westerns.
Leafus is survived by his daughter, Tarsha Jackson; brother, Oscar Island, Sr. and spouse, Bobbie and a sister, Rosie Mae Woodfork; five grandchildren, Jeremy Jackson, Kirah Edwards, Deonna Jackson, Nicole Jones and Raymond Jones; great grandchildren, Isaiah Collymore, Tathyanna Fleming, DeMar Durham, Ellie Finnerman and Addie Finnerman; many nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends and a very special aunt, Earnscell Shelton.
Leafus was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Leah Moseby and Avis Edwards; son, Lorne Island; siblings, Joe Island, Jr., Sylvester Island, Ardelia Gordon, Vera Taylor, Leola Hardwick, Hattie Mae Laney, and Laura Island.
Those serving as casket bearers are James Minter, Ryan Gibbs, Charity Hardwick, Elmer Crittendon and Steve Island. Nephews will serve as honorary casket bearers. Flower girls will be Lisa Futrel, Treasha Goss, Mary Island, Collette Payne and Colletta Davis. Nieces will serve as honorary flower girls. Ushers will be Pearl Huntley, Carolyn Jones, Rocky Gentry, Mary Olden, and Judy James.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 12:00 p.m., at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, OK with Rev. Clive Cochran officiating. Burial will follow at Lima Cemetery in Lima, OK. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, OK.
